US President Donald Trump announced on Friday he would be using the Defence Production Act, used in World War II, to combat the spread of COVID-19 across the nation.
Mr Shellenberger told Sky News the war-like approach is appropriate because the response “does involve a whole of society effort… a whole of government effort”.
He said Trump “did not expect a second wave” of the virus as the president also revealed he is aiming to reopen the country by Easter.
Carrying out the president’s plan was a possibility by engaging in “micro-suppressions,” he said.
“This is where we engage in more modest social isolation and stay at home orders throughout this year so that mostly we can get back to work.”
