Environmental Progress founder Michael Shellenberger says “the first thing that we have to understand about coronavirus is that it is the invisible enemy”. US President Donald Trump announced on Friday he would be using the Defence Production Act, used in World War II, to combat the spread of COVID-19 across the nation.
Mr Shellenberger told Sky News the war-like approach is appropriate because the response “does involve a whole of society effort… a whole of government effort”.
He said Trump “did not expect a second wave” of the virus as the president also revealed he is aiming to reopen the country by Easter.
Carrying out the president’s plan was a possibility by engaging in “micro-suppressions,” he said.
“This is where we engage in more modest social isolation and stay at home orders throughout this year so that mostly we can get back to work.”
