Improving Oblique Expansion While Breathing To maximize your intra-abdominal pressure you need to not only press out through the abs and lower back but also horizontally through the obliques. It's very common for individuals to struggle with horizontal expansion and more often than not one oblique has better expansion than the other.

To do this drill effectively find an anchor point that's about belly button high, tie two medium bands together (putting on end on your anchor and one loop around your stomach), keep tension in the bands and dont let the pressure of the bands force you to lean.

To do this drill effectively use a heavy band and make sure it is placed on your lower back at about the position opposite of your belly button
