Is Amnesty’s exiting a message to all the other foreign organizations? | The Newshour Debate

Is Amnesty’s exiting a message to all the other foreign organizations? | The Newshour Debate On the Newshour Debate with Navika Kumar, we see how the discussion unfolds about Amnesty International leaving India and halting all its operations and its campaigns and research projects in India. While the company has claimed witch-hunt by the central government, the centre has a different stance. According to the MHA statement issued today, Amnesty International had violated the Foreign Exchange Management Act and was receiving foreign funds, illegally. Rajyavardhan Rathore states that multiple illegalities were found on Amnesty India’s part and the rule of the law is same for all the organizations. According to MHA, the idea is not to sabotage or dissent the voices of Human Rights NGO, based on their works in Kashmir and Delhi riots, but to put them under scanner if any illegality is found.

Political Analyst, Sumanth Raman states that Amnesty International is not some unknown organization. It is the winner of Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in 1977. So it is a credible accepted organization. Nalin Kohli, BJP spokesperson refutes this argument by stating that certainly, Amnesty is not an organization talking of great moral standards and human rights.

Ghanshyam Tiwari, SP spokesperson counters Nalin’s argument by stating that BJP has ‘double standards’ even with Amnesty.
