All four girls suffer from Harlequin Ichthyosis, a devastating and incurable condition that brings with it the constant threat of a fatal infection. But once geneticists locate the gene responsible for the disorder, not only are they able to reproduce Harlequin skin in the lab, but they also uncover a family connection no-one could ever have anticipated.
