A Discussion on Mythic Items: Will They Be Useful in PvE?

A Discussion on Mythic Items: Will They Be Useful in PvE? In Greymoor, we'll be able to obtain Mythic items. These are powerful artefacts with unique 1-piece bonuses. You can only equip one at a time, and we saw a few of them in many of the Greymoor sneak peek videos over the last week. The big question is whether these items will be powerful enough to warrant using in PvE builds.

To use these items, we're going to need to break one of two things: either we break one of the 5-piece sets we're wearing or we break our monster set. The item that we want to use needs to be able to beat out at least one of those scenarios in order to be "useful" to us in PvE.

For magicka DPS, the second scenario, where we break our monster set, is fairly achievable. The monster sets magicka DPS typically use are Zaan for single target fights or Grothdarr for AoE fights. We also find that magicka DPS also use two one-piece crit monster pieces for AoE fights as well. So magicka DPS have already "broken" their monster set and achieved results similar to using a full monster set. It stands to reason that a Mythic item could achieve the same thing. If we wish to find a comparison, a Mythic item would need to provide more damage than the 833 Spell Critical that is provided on a 1-piece monster set.

For stamina DPS, it's a similar story. However, Maarselok and Selene's are both very popular and powerful sets. Using two different monster pieces is more rare for stamina DPS, and typically involves using Kra'gh for the penetration and Slimecraw for the crit. Essentially, this means that a Mythic item would need to beat out both 833 Weapon Critical from Slimecraw and the DPS that Maarselok and/or Selene is able to provide. A slightly higher bar to match, but still within the realm of possibility.

For supports (i.e. tanks and healers) though, the bar is unimaginably high. This is because a Mythic item would need to be more useful than a 5-piece set (think about replacing Alkosh or Olorime...tall orders to ask for) or be more useful than Symphony of Blades (again, a tall order). Because support roles tend to use group oriented sets, this eliminates the possibility of running a selfish Mythic item (except perhaps in very niche cases). A Mythic item, to be useful on a support, would basically need to be as strong as a 5-piece armor bonus or a full monster set. I don't think this is going to happen, though not impossible.

So in summary, for DPS, Mythic items might be of use, depending on how strong they are. But for support roles, they likely won't see use at all.
