According to a recent poll, Mr Murray said there has been a "massive rise" within public sentiment of people who are "very concerned" about the virus this week, as compared to last week.
This week, 53 per cent of people said they were "very concerned" compared to 39 per cent last week.
Mr Murray said it was "interesting" to view another poll which showed only 8 per cent of Australians actually think there is a "very likely" chance they will contract the virus.
He also noted a quarter of the population were worried about losing their jobs as a result of COVID-19.
