Jesus knew whose He was and who He was. His motivation as He neared the cross—love for the Father and love for people— remained steadfast. This enabled Him to remain focused on glorifying the Father and completing the work He had to do. Entrusting Himself to the Father, He was able to set His mind on revealing God’s marvelous work of salvation. He knew the cost—betrayal, injustice, pain-filled suffering, and death. He also knew the rewards—glorifying the Father and bringing salvation to many. In John 13:3, it is recorded, “Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God.” Jesus was not distracted by the circumstances because He knew the Father had a plan for Him. We know the same. John 13:1 records: It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. – John 13:1
