Germany urges Russia to give an explanation regarding the alleged poisoning of Alexei Navalny, stated government spokesperson Steffen Seibert, at a regular government press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.
His statement came after the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said on Tuesday that blood and urine samples from Navalny contained a "cholinesterase inhibitor" similar to chemicals belonging to the Novichok group.
"Russia is requested to explain itself regarding the incident. And regarding the next steps we will consult the executive committee of the OPCW and with our European partners," concluded Seibert.
The Kremlin has previously rejected Germany's accusations that Russia was to blame, with spokesperson Dmitri Peskov commenting that Moscow saw no grounds for sanctions to be imposed against it over Navalny's case.
